Hi all, thanks for any help. I have a '79 KZ1300 and have no reaction when I hit the start button. Prior to all I am am about to describe the starter would churn and churn without staring the engine. I changed out my ignition coils (needed) and also took off the full dress fairings from the bike. When I took off the fairings I had to cut many wires. I assumed (possibly ignorantly) that all of the wires dealt with lights and such in the fairing set. I also changed out the ignition coils but nothing shocking happened while doing this. Easy job. Now when I try to start the bike I get NO response of any kind. I'm wondering if there are wires leading towards the back of the bike that effect starting the engine. Please help. Nothing went wrong when I changed out the coils. Nothing. I have to assume there was a wire or two that I cut towards the back of the bike that is getting in the way. If I'm wrong, fine. But how wrong I have no idea. Thanks again - Michael

Starter soleniod is located near the battery box. you might try jumping across the terminal to see what you get. (make sure it's in nuetral first.) I don't think you should have had to cut any wires to take off the fairing, they should have some kind of connectors?

Are you aware of the main switch located in the left side cover that acts as a security measure? Not sure about your 79 but my 81 has one.

Thanks for the reply. I had to cut some wires because some had no visible connectors. There were so many. The guy I bought it from had tons of lights on them.

No, I wasn't aware of a main switch. Do you think that might have been one of the wires I cut? ANother thing I noticed is that now none of the lights (neutral light, oil pressure, etc.) on the front of the bike are coming on. I had to have cut something vital.

The Key switch for the seat is a security, anti theft shut off for the entire bike. Damn!! now everyone knows!! :S As KZCSI alluded to. Make sure the seat key switch is in the "On" or "Park" position in order for the bike to start. Hope it's that simple. Good Luck  Iceman Too

Wow, the seat key switch does that? I had no idea. I'll check that. The seat had been taken off and the lock may be open. It would be amazing if it were that simple.
