yesterday was on the way back home, got caught in a rain storm, the bike first dropped a cyl but still kept going, cleaned its self out then dropped it again then a second, next nothing.
I sat on the side of the road for about 20 min looking at anhything I could think of that got wet or loose, nothing.
after sitting it fired up ran rough for a few then off I went.

I checked the bike for any craks in the coils open wires , I replaced the pulg boots and used dielectric grease on them to seal them. I cant find anything that would have caused this, any ideas???

the bike 77 ltd 1000, has dyna ignition, a breadbox type air cleaner

I bought some ignition sealer, used damn near the whole can sprayed anything that looked like a wire/coil/spark plug wire,, let it dry, ran the bike for 30 min while spraying it with the water hose, it never stumbled,, so maye this solved the problem:) :)

I'd get a spritzer bottle of water and go out at night and see if I could get it to arc. At least try and nail down the location of the problem. Do you have a shortie fender on the front?

I had this problem a couple of times last year. At first I thought my coils/wires had been saturated but found nothing. What I did find was a very small amount of moisture had gotten into my points chamber. After a thorough cleaning and resetting of my points the bike fired and off we went. Later, at home I removed the coils and found nothing visibly wrong. I replaced the points cover gasket, coated everything with dielectric grease and reassembled. I thought I had the problem solved....
...until the next time it rained hard! Yes, I stalled again!
This winter I thoroughly went through all my wiring, checking continuity, retaping, etc, but found nothing obvious. It was while I was removing the coils that I spotted a crack along the bottom seams of both coils that I had not seen previously. AH HA!
Even though the coils check out good, I know this had to be at least part of my problem. My coils were stock and 20 years old. My assumption now is that the cracks were always there but so small I missed them. Over time the cracks got larger and became more exposed to moisture. The location of the coils under the tank were in a perfect place to catch water in a hard rain. I have purchased another set of coils and HOPE that this will solve the problem.

I agree with Locozuna, I've read where water is thrown up on coils and wires causing problems in the rain. A short fender would let this happen.

I've had the same thing happen, while I was using a short fender.
I sprayed all the wires, coils and connectors with an electrical sealer, and have had no trouble since.
Also changed fenders.
