I have a 1979 KZ650B 3. I bought an electronic ignition from Ebay. I have a photo here & I just want to know if I have all the parts that I need. If not, what part do I need? ALso anyone can tell the brand? Thanks.

You will need an IC Igniter, and then just wire it up.

You can see how I did mine here; electronic swap .

In that case I used a KZ1000 electronic Ign., so I had to make the base plate smaller. Disreguard that part, but look at how it's wired up.
I'm currently using a 650 electronic Ign. from an '80s model 650.

Oh also disreguard the part where I swapped parts on the advancer, as I was using a 1000's advancer at that point. Looks like you have one from a 650 correct?

Yeah I have the one for a 650. So all I need is an "IC Igniter"? Where do I get one of those??

ebay.
Ones from a 750/4 will work. Maybe even from a kz1000.

The IC Igniter needs 4 wires going in, from the pick up plate, and 4 wires going out, one to each coil, one ground, and one power.

Don't think the 750 twins will have the 4 wires going in from the pick ups as they only have one pick up not two.

Also, 1980 to about 1983 KZ550 igniters will work.

What else did the 550's from 80-83 share, to a degree, with the 650/750s?

Did the engine cases get shared and such?
I know some are trying to swap in a 550's 6 speed into a 650.

Any of the igniters from four cylinder KZ's with a timing advancer (mechanical advance) should work, you may have to cut and splice the plug though.

I think the first KZ's with electronic ignition were some 1980 models. The 80 750 four I'm positive did, and the 80 750 twin didn't, and neither did the 80 KZ650F.

You can also make your own igniter, the instructions are ay Loudhvx's website.
