Was up everyone? I need to pick the brains of all you kz freaks!I am olmost done with my rail with a kz 1000 powerplant.I am cunfused on what i need to make the motor run in my frame,,I believe that the motor is newer than a 80' but im not sure.It has no points it looks to me that it has a cdi (2 magnets with 2 wires going to both) i have a set of dyna coils,Dont have a clue if they will work,,will i need a brain to make spark? I have built one other buggy with a kz650 but i had the frame and all the stuff from the bike,,it was still tricky!,,i will post some photos of the beast tomorrow,,,does anyone have a simple diagram to wire a kz motor to run out of the frame? anyways you folks have helped me with my other rail so much i have returned!,,,any info will be awsome! thanks ..Raen Gregory Phx.Az

Hi Raen, I think if you have the original wiring harness for that specific bike it will be easiest way to get your project up & running. You can also use it for any lighting or electrical needs you want to have in addition. There shd. be a wiring diagram in the "KZ Information" tab at the top of the page. If not someone on this board might have one. Regards, Doug

You might be able to use this simplified diagram to get it running. If you have a mechanical advance unit, the ignition is an early KZ transistorized igniter, but not CDI. You can find a used igniter on ebay, or you can make one.
www.geocities.com/loudgpz/GPZgmHEImod.html

I drew this for an 81 550, but it should be pretty similar to yours. If you have 3 yellow (or white) wires from the alternator (with permanent magnet flywheel) you can use electronics (igniter and Regulator/rectifier) from many 1980, 1981, and 1982 KZ's.

Someone else would be better at identifying the exact year of the motor than me, but it looks like early 1980's to me, if not 1979. What's the number on the motor?

Hello noremorse...are you missing a digit in the motor VIN? There should be six numbers after the 'E' and your numbers tell me it is a 1977 model...which it shouldn't be 'cause the head is wrong. I suggest you look again.:)
