Hi. Does anyone know where I can get replacement handlebar switches or what is the best way to repair small cracks in my existing ones. The plastic is pretty faded too so it would be nice to repaint them. Is there any particular paint I should use? I have looked on Ebay for replacements but haven't seen any for an 1100 although some others look fairly similar- maybe the wiring is different or are they universal.

Thought you might like to see a picture of my old bus- it is really handy for moving my bikes around. It could be pretty handy too when I am a bit older and I can only ride a wheelchair.

Which year and model KZ1100 do you have?

Placing your bikes info into your profile will definately net you quicker (and more) replies to future questions. ;)

BTW, great bike transport vehicle you have there.
I like it! B) :woohoo:

Actually all you need to do is enter your bikes model and year into your profile once, and it will show at the bottom of all future posts you make.

Just like I have my bikes info, etc shown listed in all of my posts.

It also doesn't hurt to list your location in your proifle, because there just might be other KZrider members near you who can lend a helping hand if needed, or better yet to get together with for group KZ rides. :)

If your bike is an '82 KZ1100 shaft drive, then it can only be one of two models available that year:
KZ1100-A2
or
KZ1100-D1 "Spectre"

It's a little hard to tell from the pic in your avatar (danged old eyes of mine :pinch:), but I'm pretty sure your bike is the KZ1100-A2 model.

Yes it is a KZ1100-A2

Still working on listing my bikes in my profile!
The website won't let me post anything more than United Kingdom.

I'm pretty sure it's listed here on the website somewhere, but I'll give you the quick and skinny on how to place your location and bike info into your profile.

Clicking on the Profile link which is located at the top right of the screen just under the "KZR" logo will take you to your profile page.
From there place your mouse pointer over the Edit button and a drop-down box will appear with three options, choose the Update Your Profile option.
The next page will have three tabs:
Contact Info (which will be the tab it automaticallly directs you to)
The info that can be added is self explanetory, and aside from your name and email (required) is all optional.
Forum settings
The Signature box is where you will want to add your bikes info, your location (if so desired) and any other info (or catch phrases) that you want. Once you've completed adding all the info you want, just click the Update button to save it.
From that point on, anytime you make a post all of the info in the Signature box will show at the bottom of your post.

Pretty easy, eh? ;)

You can paint the switch housings with Dupli-Color low gloss heat paint.....its almost an exact match to the stock color.
If you are patient you will find the switches on Ebay, I found a really nice set for my KZ1000J for $50

I have recently acquired a ratty 82 KZ1000 LTD. The handlebar switch housings are black plastic. They don't have any cracks but were severely faded, almost to white. The plastic dash parts were in the same shape. I used a product called Maguires Back to Black. I put on a really thick coat and let it sit overnight. I then rubbed it in buffed and applied another coat for overnight. After buffing off the second coat the housings look brand new. I'm not sure how long it will last but it even restored some color and shine to the red switches. It did not harm the paint at all. I was quite impressed.
