My oil light, sometimes when idling down from high RPM's, and other times when in idle, illuminates but disappears when I gas it up.

What could be the cause of this? I put fresh oil/filter in.

I also idle extremely high after running the bike for long.

Its a 1977 KZ650, by the way.

Is it possible that what's happening is that the idle's set high enough to get the bike past rough cold running and then races once every thing warms up.

If not then check out the obvious intake leaks, which may get worse with heat.

The voltage could drop enough, when it's stumbling, to have the oil light flash, till the rpm's come back up. If this isn't the case, remove the oil level sensor, and clean it, or check for poor wire connections.

High warm idling could be the higher cold idle setting as suggested, and a vacuum leak as well.
