While installing all my new chrome goodies I came to realize I am in need of something I don't know exists ... white background face plates for the speedo and tach!!

They will really tie the bike together and I feel I will never be happy without them. Anyone know if anyone makes these for a Z1 tach and speedo??

Holy cr@P!! I am awesome in Photoshop .. why didn't I think of that??? hahaha,

I am so on it .. new project time! Woohoo!!! Im so stoked right now. Even his idea about wiring in blue LEDs instead of that crappy old light .. oh man this is going to be the awesomest thing ever! Now all i have do to is take apart my gauges without ruining them .. oh and then learn how to wire an LED in place of the original .. how hard can it be?? ;)

DKMK .. thank you so much for that link, you made my night brother! :woohoo:

Well i got admit .. those are pretty nice! I just had my buddy give me an quick how-to for the LED lights. So that sounds super easy.

I hope to get the gauges apart tonight and start working on it. Of course I will make a few designs and post the printable files so everyone can make some themselves.

I am pretty confident I can do a sweet job.

79MkII, what kind of material are the ones you bought? Thick paper? Thin plastic? Sticker back? Figure if I know how the pros do it I can save myself some trial and error.

They are a translucent plastic material and it looks like the numbers are screen printed maybe? I couldn't see a decal of any kind so I'm not really sure how they did it. I think the white decals shown above are just as nice or nicer and are way cheaper.

I'm wondering how mine will look with the lights on because you can pretty much see through them. I thought they would be more opaque but I'm not sending them back to Germany!

I'll attach a picture in the next post...

Here it is, I hope!!:S

The final product doesn't look this see-through because when it's all together most of the light from behind is blocked. This shows what I'm talking about though. I'm not sure if the other colors are this way or not because I've seen other pictures and you can't see through them like this.

That looks awesome!!:woohoo: Do you know somewhere that can get good material and print on it? It should be waterproof inside the gauge so I think the only thing to consider would be its abililty to withstand the UV rays and some heat from the sun and maybe the lights.

Therein lies the next challenge. Not really sure. However, I got a buddy who works in a print shop and he is one of those geeky print guys who knows too much. He may not have anything there, but he will probably know where to find some.

The guy from the other post about this mentioned something about a sign shop. Makes sense as they would probably have some good outdoor type of material I could buy off them. There is one of those around here somewhere so I may stop by there tomorrow and see.

Also trying to decide, do I go thin glossey paper material and paste it right over the cover I have, go sticker, or do I have someone else print it on something thick and not use the old back. I guess this may be one of those trial and error things.
