After some time dangling on a (plastic) thread, the button finally just fell out. I carefully placed it and the spring in a ziplock bag, intending to preserve them until a replacement was secured.

Unfortunately, on the very first trip post-button, the plastic bag fell from my pocket! :(

I do have a replacement on order, but delivery is taking longer than expected.

Is there anyway to jury-rig a temporary starter button?
(Or at least just get it started so I can move the bike from my employer's parking lot!)
All I have now is the empty hole! :)

You have two choices, one you could get somebody to help you and push start it or you can take the left side cover off and gain access to your solenoid and then use a screwdriver to jump the power between the two terminal lugs on the solenoid. To gain access to the solenoid you are going to have to remove 1 phillips head screw that is under the seat that holds the anti-hotwire cover in place. Just remove the screw and the cover will hinge outward allowing you acess to the solenoid. Sounds harder than it really is.B)
