i have a 1979 kz 650 i just installed new points in it
i set the point gap at 14 and greased them i also greased up the pickup coil
the bike starts and runs great untill i hit 7000 r.p.m.
then it breaks up and loses power
can anyone let me no were i screwd up i am going nuts

Make sure you have no grease on the contact points.

Did it rev all the way before replacing the points? Did you check the advancer and timing with a strobe light?

also check the voltage on the positive side of the coils as you rev it. If it's less than 14v, you have a charging problem, bad wire connections, bad switch contacts, or all of the above. If it's below 10v, then you pobably have something vibrating open. That would be most likely in the ignition or kill switches.

14 sounds a little tight to me try 16 to 18 and make sure you didnt put so much grease on things that its slingigng off and getting into the contacts.
