There's got to be a better way.

I've looked on the Kawasaki website for part numbers for the speedo on my 83 KZ750-F1. Seems everywhere is $500+ for a new replacement.

Haven't been able to find a used one either and I've been looking diligently for a month. Seems every model has a different part number and the one I tried from an 83 440(?), while it looked identical, had different mounting points on the back of the housing and the actual mechanism was too deep to fit in my existing housing.

So where to? Is there a compatible replacement out there that doesn't cost like it's gold plated? Any ideas?

There's a website that I got good response from when I also was looking for a replacement speedo:
www.findmypart.com/

Basically you just post what part(s) you are in need of, and let the sellers come to you! :woohoo:
The more info you provide on the part(s) you're looking for (NOS or used, part number, etc.) will obviously get you much better results. ;)

Also do you have rebuildable parts? Haven't checked in a while but I thought there use to be speedometer shops but they may not be able to stay open with the trend toward electronic speedo heads in auto use. maybe a dry run, but better than no run at all.:S

There is/was a member here (Bob, a.k.a. canyondancer)that restores the older mechanical drive speedos and tachs like on the KZ's.
But since I haven't seen him here in quite sometime, I can't say for sure if he still does this type of resto work.

If you do a search in either the KZRider archives or through Google for "Z1 Resto", you should be able to find a link or phone number to get in contact with him.

Thanks for the suggestions. A couple new ideas there, hopefully one will pan out. Until then it's GPS and bungee cords.
