Hello, i've finally got my 900 running again. Thanks to everyone that helped out and gave advice. Problem is, its not really running steady. The timing is all out of wack. Anyway, i was wondering if once again someone could lend their help and tell me how to time the new dyna S with a timing light. I know how to use the light, i just don't know how to time the ignition. Thanks again.

Remove timing cover.

Attach gun pickup to #4 and power leads to battery.

Start engine. Rev and lock engine speed @ maximum advance. . .3500-4000rpm.

Shoot light at timing port. Watch for "F" mark to meet stationary pointer. Loosen 3 screws and rotate entire point plate to match "F" mark and stationary pointer.

Lock screws.

Release plug #4, hook to #3.

Same routine, except now to match "F" and stationary marks, loosen bitty allen screws securing 2-3 trigger to point plate, and VERY carefully, slide it as necessary to align timing marks. Tighten bitty allen screws.

Replace timing cover.

You're done.

Should the F mark and timing mark align at 3-4000 RPM or at idle, around 1000 rpm? Thanks.

If it's like the KZ650 which I believe it is, you actually time the "F" mark at idle. When you rev the engine you should see the ignition advance and see two more marks '' Timing should fall between these marks at full advance.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
