Imposter Oil Drain Plug

Hi everyone! New to the forum, looking forward to getting to know ya'll.

I'm new to motorcycles, and for my first machine I've gotten a 1983 KZ750 ltd Shaft. (I posted all of this in the new member section, but figured I'd introduce myself here as well)

No stranger to mechanical work, I went to go do an oil change, as was stumped when I removed the oil drain plug and no oil came out. Not only that, but it was the weirdest looking oil drain plug I'd ever seen! After much research, I determined that I had the wrong bolt, however I cannot take the blame for this one. Here is a picture (sorry for the quality) of the original owners manual that came with the bike. The bolt they have labelled as the drain plug is the lowest sitting bolt on the bike. Can anyone tell me what it actually is?

-John

Nope, sphincter valve stayed relatively closed after complete removal.

(I've been lurking here for weeks, I'm prepared for the sarcasm you hooligans throw around :P )

Martin: I don't think it's the oil level switch, and looking at the diagrams it might just be one of the mounting bolts for the oil pan. It's dark out now, I'm going to go take a look tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion on the diagrams.

4theKZ1000: jokes on my first post just make me feel like I'm already part of the board. Thanks for the link to the diagram.

Will update when I figure out what bolt it was.

By any chance, is that the mounting point for the exhaust manifold?

ZN700 manifold, but I think the F1 is similar

That's the one! Great detective work Martin! and with only a blurry picture to work off of.

I was amazed when I removed what was clearly labelled "drain plug" in the owners manual and nothing happened. Glad I struck oil on the second attempt.

When I bought that manifold, I kinda wondered what it bolted to, but I figured either the frame or the oil pan... now I know. Thanks.
