This won't help at all, but please consider yourself lucky the Achilles remained intact. I ruptured one of mine years ago: the recovery after surgery was a little rough but rehab was a monumental PITA.

This is my second time going down on a bike. The last time was about 20 odd years ago. I was on my BMW and not paying attention on wet roads on worn tires i was planning on replacing the following week. I was approaching a cloverleaf (I have vid of me going around that same ramp in my KZR vid thread) and tried to turn going too fast. The bike just flopped right down and I slid for about 10 yrds on my back. I was wearing full leathers and I think I got some scrapes from my jacket being forced up on my back.

I remember there was a car passing as I was sliding down the asphalt and at least 3 passed as I was still on the ground or picking up my bike. It was a Sunday afternoon. None of them stopped.

The bike was OK just a good scrape mark on the valve cover other than that nothing. I got new tires as planned, cleaned up the scrapes with a file and repainted the cover.

OK, another dumb question. What is the difference in the turbo ZX750E head?

From what I can remember the turbo heads have a hole for a temperature sensor and no air injector ports in the exhaust. Which means the valve cover doesn't have the reed valves and caps and is specific to the turbo head.
The turbo also used the cams from the kz650 so you don't want those.

Well, you had my attention until the 650 cams.

There seems to be more of them available. Now I know why. The standard cams can't be used? I don't care for the smog stuff anyway.

I think I have all the stuff on the way to replace or repair what was banged up except for the actual engine stuff. I've located most of it but just need to get it.

As for the head and all, I'm just going to slow my roll and see what I actually have to work with.

I'll take my head off and see what the cylinders and pistons look like and go from there. I can repair my head if i don't get a ZX750A head. I probably should anyway. There should be an effort to save these parts since they are so rare.

I busted one of the cam cap bolts after i fist got it and shimmed the valves back into spec. I did a complete botch job correcting it and have a Helicoil in there held in place by aluminum Devcon. Being a machinist and a gunsmith it was stupid mistake and half-assed repair. I should be able to repair it with it off. I'd like to put a 17-4 heat treated stainless bushing in there so i know it ain't going to happen again. maybe do the same with all while I'm at it

But you already answered that.

I would definitely repair the one you have. As there is a really good chance that one you get off the Internet will probably need to have a stripped cam cap repaired as a well as a valve job....etc.
The '82 heads are a one year only ported head from the factory. That is to cool to not to use.

I would definitely worry about keeping the head if I was doing a restoration. Since I'm not I'm on the fence. I would make sure it went to someone doing a full restoration like the rest of the take off parts I've sold.

The one thing I have no interest in doing is upgrading the swing arm and forks. I think it takes away from the vintage look of the bike. I want someone to look at my bike and know it is a vintage (it's really weird calling a 82 vintage but it is 35 yrs old) bike that's been "hot-rodded" a bit. Otherwise it seems to me all i would be doing is bringing a GPz up to ZRX spec. Maybe that's an argument against doing the ZX and/or 810 mods right there.

In that case maybe i should consider, if needed, doing the ZR7 head as a "lateral" option due availability and convenience.

I believe I have sourced everything I need to get her back up and running. I pretty much just need to get any parts Redhawk4 has for my bike and I'm ready to roll.

It will take me a month or so to get started. I'm going to start a new thread. It seems I'm going get to the, hopefully, final phase of this bike much earlier than expected. I'm excited to see how everything pans out. It's not going to be anything super high-speed, mind-blowing radical but I think it will be unique and "cool', at least to me.

Stay tuned, the GPz "Traffic Fighter" will be coming to a beltway and canyon near... um, me.
