I am building a similar project, KZ turbo pro street bike. I will be using the HSR 42 carb also, just wondering what size main and pilot jet you used ? I have just about the same engine combo you used. 84 GPZ head, stock GPZ cams, 1075 wiseco pistons, MKII crank and cases.

The baseline settings Mr Turbo gave me are as follows. 2.3 needle & seat, required for use with fuel pump. 220 main, always start rich, i've heard of Gixers using 230 mains. 35 piolot, don't remember what I used. 95 needle - clip on bottom, I think this is the rich needle, an attempt to get rid of the leaness at about 1/4 throttle. I "recurved" a 98 needle, don't remember what clip position probably top = lean. Do all your tests with the needle in the bottom position so you can drop needle if you go to far. Buy a few needles and work your way up to it. Mikunis are tuned by throttle position, mark 0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and wot positions on 2 peices of tape one on grip one on handlebar control to see where the leanness happens. Then measure where the needle lines up with the restriction in the needle jet, you'll see a "hump" there on the needle, thats where to remove small amounts of material until you get the results you want, what a difference! Stupid harleys! Remember FUEL PRESURE, FUEL PRESURE, FUEL PRESURE

Thanks for the info on the jetting. That will be a big help. I am concerned about fuel pressure. I have heard about people having problems getting the fuel pressure consistant. I am thinking about trying to gravity feed the carb. I've read where some racers have had success with gravity fed. They said to use the guzzler fuel valve and as large a fuel line as possible. How did you mount the carb to the turbo ?

I'd not want to chance gravity feed, remember you need to flow 250hp worth of fuel. Adjusting fuel pres ain't that big a deal, an you can tune with it. If you try it use the big needle an seat. I bought the rubber carb mount that was designed for it from Mikuni an machined up a spacer to mount it to the turbo. make it as short as possible. Rubber also less likely to ice up. Thats why 50 deg. is about the lower temp limit on these systems. Icing can hold throttle wide open.

This is my first time using a turbo, so I wanted to keep everything as simple as possible. That's why I was thinking of trying to gravity feed the carb. How does the air over boost controller work ? Do you need a multi stage wastegate to use it, or can you just use a standard wastegate ?

You can still use a pump and keep it simple, just mount the regulator where you can get at it an carry a wrench. You might need to adjust it once after you leave for a ride or fill tank or if there are any drastic temp changes. Wastegates with reference above and below the diaphram are better because they offer more options and control better. There are electronic systems that are awsome. But a simple bleed system will work. Use a variable orfice to control bleed. I had a bb25 (small turbo) bike that I bracket raced alot with a bleed system. The bike, turbo, would only make 15lbs of boost. A simple soliniod that dumped all reference to the gate hooked up to the horn switch was all it had. The bike was capable of 9.80s but I dialed it at 10.50s. Run the quarter at 7lbs of boost until you click 5th gear and hit that button, they didn't know what hit em. Went to the finals at a Prostar event doing that and two at the local track. These sport bike punks come up on you in 4th gear an think they got you, back off for fear of breaking out an watch there eyes bug out and there jaws drop, trailer time sucker.

Added extra bonus, The intake manifold on this bike once went 7s. It came off of Geoff Pollards little red funnybike, the quickest and fastest funny in Canada at one time, and is signed by him "Geoff Pollard 7.07" I saw him make several passes that the front tire never touched the track.
