Well, finally after 5 years, I have finally finished this project. I fired it up for the first time this week and gave it a quick ride. I still need to dial in the carbs, it wants to stumble at about 6K rpm, but in every other way it has far exceeded my expectations. the Delkevic exhaust sounds amazing, and handling looks to be very promising. words can not express my excitement for this bike!

Haven't been on in quite a while, figured I would update with a couple of cool action shots. Also, I had to concede to the challenge of tuning the CV carbs to my desired plan, and sprung for a set of Mikuni RS flatslides....... holy smokes these carbs are the ticket! this motorcycle has more than met any expectation I had, and continues to amaze me. I have ridden a lot of motorcycles in my day, some pretty spectacular motorcycles, but this one has my heart. It may be the fact that I have a lot of emotion and work into it, or maybe that I made it to specifically fit me and my vision (didnt care what anyone else thought, and i had no rules for myself to follow), but i can honestly say that this is the most enjoyable and the most fun motorcycle I have ever ridden.... and for a select few of my riding buddies, after they have ridden it, they have had the same reaction. I entered it last fall at the Wings and Wheels show in Vail, Colorado, and one "Best of Class"... man, this was a huge honor!

Very nice build and good to see you are enjoying it.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Awesome. Sexiest cop bike since Goose.

The side panel decals make it 100% cooler.

Definitely big on the cool factor! As said above, one of the nicest cop conversions I have seen anywhere. And still honors its police lineage by having the Kawasaki police decals. How cool is that?

Very nice build. Since you're obviously very familiar with the kzp frame, I was hoping you could tell me where the VIN number is stamped? I have a KZP, and I'm unsure of the year because the sticker on the right side front down tube is roached, and I can't for the life of me find the stamp. I checked all the usual places, and searched here on the forum, but no luck so far. Thanks in advance.

The VIN is stamped on the head tube. In the case of my frame, the fairing mounting bosses were welded over the top of the number, covering about half of it. After milling off the bosses and powder coating, the stamped VIN is useless. I took a picture of the I.D. info sticker before I started any work on the frame, then had one duplicated by a local sign company ....passed VIN inspections with no problems.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments ;)

Dude, this bike look so amazing! I'm doing the exact same thing on a '90 KZ1000P. What did you use for your controls? I'm using clubmans similar to what you originally swapped in and the originals unfortunately don't fit on.
