Hello,
I have a Kawasaki Z440LTD from 1982, and have it complely rebult/clean/painted, I also added a Gel battery, Know this is the topic.
the "normal "charging voltage is 14,4-14,6 Volt (optimized for a "wet battery" , but to high for a modern Gel lead battery.
to chage this I have placed a bridge rectifier (for example KBCP2510, 25 A max 1000V, cheap on Aliexpress see attachment), the connect the plus to the minus, and the ac to ac, the you get two diodes in conduction and two revese (see drawing), now the regulator is charging at 14.4-14.6 V, then a lost over the diodes of 0,6 V , so the charge Voltage will be 13,8-14,0.
I have build this in my Kawa, the result is a perfect charging Voltage of 13,9-14,1 V (with light on).
hopefully someone help this.
greets Wim

for some reasons again no picture.., I will try a other way.
for extra Info, when you don't like the 0,6 V voltage drop, you can also use schottky diode , then the drop will be 0,3 Volt, a good type to use is 20SQ045-3G (max 45V / 20 A)

This is good info. My Honda Magna runs at 14.8V. While this is great for around town errand running, it's a bit high for long road trips, which I mainly use this bike for. I may try this rectifier bridge, but add a bypass switch so I can switch between 14.2 and 14.8V.
