I might keep the black part of the bracket that goes on the back of the tailight housing and weld it to the Aluminum piece I will make?

Are you planning on taking it somewhere to be welded?

That plate is most likely steel, you couldn't weld the two (aluminum and steel) together if it is. I would just use some bolts to attach it to the bracket

You actually CAN weld steel to aluminum ( i researched it) but what Im going to do is make the entire bracket out of either steel or aluminum. Havent decided which yet.

Id still like to know if the license plate to frame bracket for a 900/1000 would fit a KZ650, and what the rear frame differences are.

I dont need the tail light part and would give that away. Im only interested in the license plate to frame part.

I think I found the solution. Poster RSTNICK posted back in 2010 his way of attaching the light (the same ZX6E I have) to his KZ650. Looks SUPER easy. just 2 "L" brackets!!

You can also weld cast iron and steel, but without lots of forethought it will crack

You can also weld stainless steel to carbon steel, but it will rust at the seam

Aluminum and steel expand and contract different. Even if you got a good weld it would crack and fall apart in the short term.

Soldering the two together would probably be a better idea or riveting. A pop rivet gun is only like 20 dollars at harbor freight.

Why wouldn't you just keep what you've found about the fender eliminator in one thread?

Edit:
Something like this:

"Fender eliminator and zx6e tail light on KZ650" as the title then the post would be something like this

Then you probably would have started the thread with your initial plans of fabricating your mount.

Some talk about that from others....

Then you researched and decided it would have been easier to use the bracket that comes with the light

Others offer advice about how you could do that.

You then post about how you might be able to adapt the fender eliminator for the 900 and 1000 for your 650

After more research you find those pictures you put in the other thread and post them up here and decide to go for that.

Maybe a few comments about its a clever idea, etc. then the thread is mostly dead unless you think of something else or run into a problem with installing it.

I just don't understand why you make a new thread for every question.
You have 4 threads that could all be put under one.

The fender eliminator kit from Z1E fits the 650. I fitted one years ago. I also painted it satin black. I didn't use the light mount plate as it was too big for the small LED cat's-eye tail light.
