Hi All,
Its been a while but here's what i did last weekend. I changed the entire main wiring harness as well as the junction panel harness. Bike still idles at 12.3 volts. I don't know where else to go from here. I've done pretty much everything and changed all charging components i could possibly think of. Would a faulty starter solenoid be causing that extra draw?

I believe the starter solenoid only draws current when the start button is pushed, otherwise, unless there's been an internal failure(which happens now and then) the starter motor would be engaged too. To check this, unplug the starter motor's solenoid "Bullet Connectors" and see if the charging voltage on the battery goes up.

WOW dude, you got some kind of ghost bike there.

You changed the entire wiring harness?! Thats incredible.
All the charging system stuff you put in was new right???
The magnet is still magnetic??? that helps.

What voltage do you get from the stator when you check for AC at the stator output wires? Same Voltage across all three terminals at same rpm?

If the output from the stator is 50+ VAC at 3500+rpm across all three terminals, and the output from your rectifier/regulator is still crap, replace it with a new one - or wire it up correctly.

Good luck!

I've seen this happen before. Here's what I did:

Try riding without the headlight on (pull the headlight fuse). I bet the battery voltage will be fine at idle then. You'll need to upgrade to a 3-ph stator and reg/rec to get enough power to run the Dyna S and your headlight. Another option is just to keep the battery charged frequently.

I had the exact same problem you are having. I replaced all of the things you have (except the wiring harness), I did all of the tests you have done, and finally in desperation I replaced both of the battery cables. I don't know which one was bad but changing them fixed my problem. Just a thought.

Good luck!

Hi All,
I'm trying to determine whether my rotor magnets are worn... at 4,000 RPM's i'm getting about 60AC Volts out of the stator but, the books don't tell you what the numbers should be at idle. Would anybody know how many volts i should get at idle?

To improve the output at low rpm's, I believe www.electrosport.com sells overwound stators. As for your question, as long as the alternator is puting out the proper A.C. and the rectifier/regulator is working as designed, I don't think there's a problem with your bikes charging system.

Go to electrosports website & go through the troubleshooting page.
