i have a 2001 cbr600 dedicated track bike. it is cheaper to run and WAAAAY easier to ride than a kz.
get as much seat time at track days as u can before u consider racing.
track days r fairly safe untill u deside to pass, and treat it like a race. then things start getting out of control as a novice. ;)
76 KZ, frame gusset work,1200CC.Ported by Larry Cavanaugh, 1.5mm.over intakes, Carron Pipe, ZRX12 rear end, and seat,96zx9 front end.

How hard is it to create a dual plug head?
2000 ZRX 1100
1976 KZ 900- Daily Driver
1980 LTD 550- Dalton Highway survivor!

use a 10mm sp plug like the little Honda 4strokes, there's barely enuf room without encroaching on the valve seats.
Flycut from the top, drill and tap right on in vertically.
The set-up is the crucial part, as always

what do u do for an ignition system? can u just run dual leads from each side of the pick-ups to 2 extra coils?

At what point do u think it becomes advantageous to run 4 plugs? is it only if u go over a particular compression ratio?

yes, an extra set of coils run in parallel with the main coils.

by starting the fire in combustion chamber on 2 sides, the explosion happens more completely, sooner. Flame doesnt have to travel across the chamber to the other side, hence I am using a full 6 degree LESS spark advance...less detonation and more tolerance for high compression. and high compression is where its at!

Ahh I see. Upon a closer inspection, I noticed the second plug boss is indeed smaller. Are there any difficulties with using different sized plugs? Maybe slightly different resistance ratings?

What kind of ignition and coils do you use? Dyna S, Dyna 2000, Dyna III, Kawasaki OEM? Any special ducting to cool the four coils?

Since the main heat-producing process is combustion, having a dual flame front which allows the combustion to happen sooner and more completel, the motor should run a bit cooler wouldn't you think? Or is any possible cooling effect negated by the higher compression ratio?

This is a great thread. 6 degrees less total advance is a lot on an inline 4. Top end power should be up considerably with this mod.
I'd like to see the dyno charts from both set ups fully optimized. Very nice story and thanks for the all the info. Did I say this is a cool thread?

Yep, doing just fine. The Z1 is sitting all tidy in the garage after finishing 2nd 2 weeks ago at the Homestead-Miami Raceway season finale of the Florida Vintage Series.

In recent months I built a new, mongrel 'vintage' front fork/wheel assembly in an attempt to cure the lingering (and lap time restrictive) horrible chatter at full lean in very fast corners. It was a great success. No more chatter and greater confidence at race speeds.
Improvements include larger fork (42mm) tubes, greater overlap into the lower sliders, wider wheel bearing location, larger diameter/hollow axle, double bolt axle clamps, external damping and pre-load adjustment, and stiffer caliper brackets.
