Cam caps are line bored on their mated head at the factory.  Caps from other heads may or may not be useable.

Is this true across all models? I have a spare 440 head that is missing the caps.

Can a shop re-line-bore a non-original set of caps? I imagine that would require different bearings.

If the engine have cam cap, then yes. They are head specific. You may get lucky with different set of cap(s), but only way to tell is putting it on the head and turn the cam with your hand, which usually means taking the head off .

Also, almost all car engine have crank cap and they are same. What I mean is that they are engine specific. Cam or crank, they all get line bore at the factory.

Also yes, machine shop should be able to but for most machine shop, I doubt they have align hone tool that small. At least the shop I usually go didn't.
