Will a gearset from an earlier KZ750, lets say a 1976 KZ750, fit into a 1982 KZ750 LTD? Are the ratios the same? My bike is popping out of 2nd under load (and finding a false neutral in 4th) so I'm thinking it's time to freshen up the trans. Thanks for your knowledge :)

Consider the following - the 1982 KZ750-LTD is a 4 cylinder motorcycle. The 1976 KZ750 is a 2 cylinder motorcycle. The two models share very little. So when considering finding parts for a 4 cylinder KZ750 it would be wise to look at other 4 cylinder KZ750 bikes. Ed

The models share gear ratios from 1st to 5th, the only difference is the final reduction ratio (sprockets) suggesting they use the same gears. The service manual draws no distinction between transmissions during the service or supplement sections, again, suggesting they are the same. Cylinder count has little to do with transmission configuration as the addition of two cylinders in-line does not interfere with a horizontally mounted gearset and the horsepower difference between the two engines is negligible.

Searching part numbers again reveals the same for every piece of the KZ750-E3 (2 cylinder) vs KZ750-H3 (4 cylinder) in the transmission. The KZ750B appears to be different however so I suppose I answered my own question. Thanks for the pictures.

Wow, You have 2 posts, ask a question then when it's not answered the way you want you berate the guy who answered your question. If you knew the answer to the question why ask it unless your just trying to show us all how much smarter you think you are than the rest of us.

In your original posting you asked "Will a gearset from an earlier KZ750, lets say a 1976 KZ750, fit into a 1982 KZ750 LTD?" The 1976 KZ750 is the KZ750-B1. Since that's the bike you mentioned that's the bike I referred to. If you look at the part numbers for the 1976 KZ750-B1 vs. the 1982 KZ750-LTD you should see that the part numbers are in fact different. Notice the different part numbers for gear, shafts, etc. between the first diagram below for the 1982 KZ750-LTD and the second diagram below for the 1976 KZ750-B1. They all look different to me. Ed
