The color should change when it's burning correctly.

My new pipes look like crap. I may remove them after I fatten it up a tad and try a few compounds with my bench polisher on the bluing.

This stuff works well on my V&H chrome. Claims to work on SS too:

I googled Blue-Job and found extensive reviews and a lengthy article of how it does it's thing by the guy that makes it. It's pretty lengthy, but he explains why pipes turn blue. Copy and paste from his article:
"I am a crystal scientist, gemologist and specialize in high-end emeralds from El Chibor, El Muso mine in Colombia, and various Madagascar mines. I design micro crystalline relationships that are so small that they cant be seen without an electron microscope (magic white powders). "

I use rubber coated frame clips for cables from Diablo, to keep scratches to a minimum.

The coated clips would be great, if scratches were my problem. My frame has always looked like sheet since the day I tried to use por-15 gloss black to paint it. After numerous attempts to make it look good, I finally gave up and assembled the bike. (had just sold my 81 CSR 1000). And NOW with the header scorching the por-15 frame paint, a few scratches on the frame would be an upgrade. lol

I can't believe how sloppy the factory frame welds appear to be. I would like to have the frame blasted clean, re weld and grind down a few places. Perhaps add some bracing while I'm at it, then powder coat it and start all over... SOMEDAY.

The stock double wall header pipes serve several purposes, one of which keeping exhaust pipe temps down. (also maintains exhaust gas velocity)

It is cooking the paint on the frame cross section along with anything in it's vicinity like a clutch cable.
