Torque spec for Cam Cain tensioner body?

Hey all, finished assembling my top end last night (first time) and came into question of what torque I should use for the two mounting bolts on the cam chain tensioner body. The PDF Z1 FSM I got from this site does not state what the torque should be. My Clymer stated 14.5 Ft-Lb. So I went with that value I figured it to be reasonable since the unit will have a constant force on it from the cam chain. But when using my in-lb torque wrench, set to 174 in-lb it seemed like it was never tightening up. So I got scared and simply used some blue thread lock and went by feel instead. Would hate to strip those threads. Who knows it may be too late. I hope not since I'm not sure it would be possible to repair with heliacoil while the engine is in the frame would be tricky space wise. No way I want to take the cylinder block off again. Man, and I was worried that the cam caps instead. That part ended up being easy along with the timing. Is 14.5 ft-lb the correct torque value for the cam chain tensioner?

Thanks Leon, I am concerned about it since I mounted it. I hope it holds but will keep an eye on it. Your chart seems more reasonable. If I do have to make are repair on it, how feasible is it to tap it out to an M8 instead of doing the helicoil? What is recommended? I figure tapping it I can do with it on the bike and only requires the carbs to be out space wise.

14.5 ft pounds is WAY too much; It is stripped. :( I think it's time for you to toss out the Clymers manual and buy a Kawasaki Service Manual. The KZ650 manual calls for 61-78 INCH pounds of torque on those bolts. That equals 5.1 - 6.5 FOOT pounds. See page 35 in link:

Thanks Ed. Yeah, that number seems more reasonable. Would like to replace these bolts with M8's. Not sure. Or maybe I can just re-tap (chase the thread) for the existing M6. Not sure what the best way to go. I will look for an FSM specific to my bike. Two manuals had kept me going until now. But after look at your FSM, I see that it would be worth while.

Over the years I have learned not to use a torque wrench on any 6mm bolts screwed into aluminum. I just tighten them by feel. I have stripped out way to many using inch pound torque wrenches. You can feel when they are tight enough.
