Would this explain why it’s having trouble starting, running and reving?

Lol I think I found out why it’s so freaking hard to start and why there is excessive gas in the pod on carb #1. And why every once in a while it would back fire though carb #1. I checked the compression in cylinder #1 and almost all of it is going out #1. Meaning I took the plug out and used compressed air. My guess is maybe I put the valve shims in wrong or something. Cuz I’m pretty sure the valve isn’t bent. I had a professional do my valves. So I guess I’ll need to take the cover and cams off to see what’s up. I really hope I don’t have to take the head off cuz I don’t want to pay the money for a new gasket right now.

Thanks!

I just checked and it would seem I accidentally put the wrong shim in cylinder #1. There is absolutely no clearance. So I’ll dig in later to see what shim is in it. I had them done professionally by a dude and when I got it back I took everything apart and cleaned them. Put it back together wrong I guess.

Thanks!

A real professionally mechanic should re-check his valve Job twice, before and after!!!

Lol I’m sure he did. I just took it home to clean it out. When I reassembled it I must have not put it together correctly.

A write up of the valve shims positions and thickness for later adjustment is a must do.

Yeah. He did do that for me. I just can’t find the piece of paper he did it on.

I could be wrong but could I take the shim where there is two much clearance and put it in my tight number 1 cylinder. Thus hopefully balancing it out. Does that sound logical.

Thanks!

No, it does not sound at all logical. It sounds like you are just trying to avoid measuring the clearances and properly adjusting them. Keep in mind that if you do not adjust the clearances properly (see the Kawasaki Service Manual for details) you stand a good chance of damaging the engine rather than improving it. Ed

Oh okay! I don’t mind checking clearences. I was just curious as to the best method to find out which shim was placed incorrectly.

Thanks!

Measuring the clearances is the only way to see if any of the clearances are not within spec. If a wrong shim was inserted measuring the clearances should identify the problem. Ed
