my thoughts also got a few tips from the body shop today. It seems as if every store in Evansville isn't carrying the aircraft paint stripper dont know if it's a EPA thing or just unlucky day shopping. bought some stuff that says it will strip Epoxy and all paint so we will see. gonna run out and give it a quick try

ok this stuff works pretty wellgot it at Lowes 10.00 worked 300 times better than the rustoleum aircraft paint stripper aerosol (9.00 bucks a can @ walmart) neither one seems to do anything to the rough cast part of the wheel.

the Nitrile gloves or better are needed this stuff burns like fire if you get it on you where as the aerosol might burn a little nothing like this stuff.

You might want to try using a really stiff plastic brush with that stripper. If you look in the bathroom tile department of Home Depot they sell a stiff plastic or nylon brush for cleaning bathroom grout. I would think it would be stiff enough to scrub off the softened pain without damaging the alloy. Ed

Had a little time to srip on the wheel today the stripper worked pretty well. didn't affect the rough area but I have an idea to paint the inside black and kust polish the the outer area unless it gets real cold and I get real bored.

now comes the sanding part. the stripper only got 99%
there are some areas that are being contrary so...
if anyone knows a better way let me know but I am gonna start with 1000 grit wet to get the remaining paint goto 1500 then 2000 wet before I start the buffing

Got the wheel stripped spent some time polishing, now got everything boxed up to take to my Guru (brother) to see which direction to go. I have 2 swingarms neither of which is the best choice.

Neither of them are wide enough withour some machining bushings brake set up etc,,, neither of them are the correct axle size for the wheel so I need to see if changing bearings and axle to fit the swingarm or machining the swingarm is the answer. 3rd option dump the swingarms I have and buy one that will only need pivot machining i'm kind of torn on which wasy to go

I think the buy the swingarm that fits the wheel will be least expensive and still a challenge but beed the confirmatiiom from someone with more experience

hey ramtough,
the swingarm i posted that i machined down in the zx9 to kz conversion thread was a zx9r 2000-2001.
a member bought one yesterday for like $49.00 shipped,to me so that i can modify it for his kz.

they use a 1 inch axle and measure 10 3/8's between the axle plates.

show your machinist dude my thread and have him mod one for you,or i will help you if needed.
spin out a couple shock mounts and weld em on polish it out.
or go mono.
it's all kawi too :P

just a thought  .

Havent posted any progress for a while because I havent made any. had my commuter car laid down and had to by another car which has put the KZ on hold. Did get to ride her for the last time this year almost made it til winter. The gas tank finally gave way but for those of you that are wondering about the JB weld repair it's still holding. So I gues it's time for the winter build.

Should I continue on this Thread or start a new one?

the plans are complete Tear down to frame paint rewire rebuild enngine swingarm and wheel swap. possible fork swap lots of new chrome new tank with gsxr cap and a new pipe on on a budget of course and 6 month deadline putting togeather my budget now

i will be doing some painting to offset my cost if anyone wants to barter paint work for parts or services I am game.

"low" I am a short Sh@* and most of the mono setups I have seen previously have been too tall. I have a AFCO adjustable racing shock I will probably use

i replied to your pm .

for the record i mis-spoke when i said the zx9 would work.
they are too wide and the pivot tube is to big.

the 03-04 kawasaki zx636 swingarm is the one to get.

that is the one i did the conversion post about.

they can be found for around $50.00 bucks shipped on ebay.
