You might try screwing all four sinch screws out the same amount about 1/2 turn. This will enable you to idle lower. In increases vacuum and out decreses vacuum. Set idle at 900 to sinch and then check at 3000 to see if they are still in sinch. Have fun.
Am addicted to Z1's and kz 900's have an el camino, fly rc helicoptors and am strung out on horsepower.

Thanks Mike. After dialing in the air mixture the bike is performing pretty good. But I can only get the idle down to between 1000 and 11000 rpm. So I will try your suggestion next week. I was wondering what is the preferable vacuum average. The instructions states it is only important that they are even relative to each other (within 2cmHg). As long as the absolute readings are within the manufacturers specifications. But of course, I have no idea what is the manufacturers absolute readings (range). I would like to find that out. But anyhow, hopefully I will able to sort the idle out by bringing the average down a bit as you suggested.

Been awhile since I last posted on this thread. Since then, I had a problem with my front cam chain guide breaking. Came out of the oil drain hole when changing the oil after a 150 mi ride.

So I finally had some time to dropped the oil pan. Thing was cooked on pretty good. Tried the rubber mallet thing, but it just bounced off like a superball. Tried two foot wooden 2x2 and then a shorter 2x1 and all they did was splinter the ends. Kept thinking I don't want to use the torch with all that oil and it being such a big part. Thanks to reading one of Mfloks' suggestions of using a hair dryer as I searched this site, I decided to try my heat gun. Put the gun on high and concentrated on the front of the pan. A few more hefty whacks with a 2x1 and hammer and it finally gave way.

Here is what I found. No metallic debris but plastic bits which I attribute to the cam chain guide.

I know this was the wrong end of the engine but I wanted to drop the pan to read what the sludge can tell me about the engine (like reading tea leaves) before I pull off the head and jugs.
Hopefully this weekend the head and jugs come off. I will install the new chain guide, do all the measurements to make sure everything is in spec, replace the rings, lap the valves and replace the old valve seals with new ones. Might as well attend to these things while I'm in there. I'm hoping that after everything is complete, this will be the last wrenching I have to do for a long time.
