No need for all that blingy braided hose,i'll be turning up some alloy hose end finishers and using Goodyear oil/fuel hose like i did on the Drouin for the no frills look.
Believe it or not i am trying to keep this build simple and basic
Despite the modern running gear i want the oldskool racer look that doesn't need trinkets to overshadow the mechanical beauty that genuine race machines have.

I'm probably not seeing this, but what happens if you push the bike backwards and the pads scrape the rotor - wouldn't the caliper be swung around?

No! There's a bobbin that sits against the under side of the arm also (see the second to last pic in the caliper mount mod section on the previous page)
The caliper mount is locked in place and can't move in either direction.
I have since moved the permanently fixed bobbin to the loaded side(top)and moved the eccentric adjuster to the bottom position as it need less rotation to take up any slack and i feel is a stronger set-up.

Ahhh gotcha. I noticed that bobbin, but I wasn't sure it was connected. I was pretty sure you wouldn't have missed that mundane detail, but thought I'd ask anyway. B)

Decided to get on with the front end whilst i wait for a back sprocket to turn up.
Fitted new taper rollers, painted the top yoke and slotted the forks in.
Quickly came to the conclusion that the gold anodised forks look shite so had to do something about it.

Had bought some Sodium hydroxide crystals from Gateros plating to strip the anno from the R1 calipers gold stars so decided to do the same to the forks.
Only fly in the ointment was that i had rebuilt them with new seals etc after i had extended them.
Not wanting to pull them apart and risk damaging the seals just yet i decided i had nowt to lose by having a go at stripping them whilst they are in one piece.

As they say on the telly .. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

After a bit of experimentation with the concentration of the solution and suitably equipped with goggles and rubber gloves i carefully set about sponging the sodium on the the leg.

After only ten minutes and a wipe with clean water i had this

Very suprised how clean and easy it came off and with no smutting .

Only 90 mins work from start to finish and i had this.
Spot the difference :D

Quickly perfected the technique and after another 20 mins job done.

Don't mind the gold on the damping adjusters so i'll leave it on.

Same treatment for the calipers.
Pretty sure the grey finish on the calipers is anno too so not wanting to risk taking any of that off i knocked up a five sided tool to unscrew the gold stars
Nothing too fancy just attacked a bit of scrap ally with the angle grinder till it fitted something like

They came out much easier than expected and are only sealed with an 'o' ring and no thread lock.

One done and three more to go.

That looks a million times better than the gold! I assume the person who decided new forks had to be anodized gold also has a prominent gold tooth.
