I've got feelers out to my buddies at the university, hopefully it wont come to that, a milling machine does a much cleaner job than I can with a dremel.

Thats more than I can afford right now, plus I think its ridiculous that they're quoting two hours work to put a couple sprockets on a rotary table and slot them. I'm not a machinist and I know it would take me less than an hour to do the same job. So, alternatives?

Considering APE sells cam sprockets for $60 a pair I think $200 to slot a set is a little out to lunch. I need my own equipment!!!!!

Time to break out the chainsaw file. Ed

X2.
thats how everyone did it befoe APE. u only need a little .
The dremel would seem like cheating LOL

My problem is I dont trust myself not to ruin my sprockets, so I'm going to send them to APE I think. Jay quoted me a much more reasonable price.

Would Jay mind if you posted what he quoted? I will be in need of some slotted 650 sprockets in the next year or so and a ballpark dollar figure can't hurt. B)

I just slotted a set of 650 cam sprockets with a carbide bit in a Dremel tool... took about 5-7 min per hole and that was me being careful - take the time to layout the slots with machinist blue and scribe the slot profiles with a sharp vernier.

The holes are just over 1/4" diameter so I made the slots 1/2" long - that will be plenty of adjustment.

Have the cams there to trial fit and adjust the slots if necessary.

I can't see how you could screw it up...

I don't know why the 650 sprockets are harder than the stock 900 sprockets, but that seems to be the case - maybe this was one of the factory improvements?

I remember getting some done on a mill 20 years ago for about $60.

I have a guy i know doing them for free now on the mill. I probably would have ended up doing it that way though, with the dremel.

Update here. I got the cams in, and degreed, but I degreed them to 105 and not the 108 that I should have so I'll fix that tomorrow. Good to get practice anyways.

Exhaust mount is welded on, looks grest minus the shitty welding job. Too blobby. But I'll just grind it down. Came out prefectly though otherwise, the exhaust looks great on there and the mount looks like it was meant to be there. Also welded on some attachment points for my swingarm spools. Gonna try out the stand over the weekend, it's in storage now.

The O2 bung is in the header, just have to chase the threads before I can put in the sensor.

Main problem today was that the airbox I bought does not fit. Turns out a KZ750 box wont fit a early 650. So pods it is.

Couple pics in a few minutes when I get them from my phone.

Oh that wont work either, since I'm running BS34's. My hope was that there existed a BS34 airbox that'd fit a early 650 frame. I don't think it exists.
