A few squeezes on the females here and there, huh! Oh to be single again. Oh wait, sorry this is KZR. Yeah Yeah, good work Tyler.

Seriously, its good to see your bike coming back together. Do you lack any other parts besides the exhaust? I know you must be exhited to fire it up again. I just went back and looked at the beginning of your thread, and you had planned to have it back together a year ago. Funny how life gets in the way.

The all white wiring reminds me of an airplane, where the wire are differentiated by the numbers printed in the sheathing. There's nothing like putting together a brand new bike. Isn't it nice to touch everything with bare hands and still walk away clean? :) It looks inspiring!

With all the new wiring/thus increased AWG, connectors, fuse box... Nope, you won't need no damn coil mod.... B)

KZ900/early 1000's pretty much the same.... I realize your project is a KZ650 but should be similar...

As can be reviewed in this image for minimal electrical to run one of these KZ, not much there to truly cause you a problem....

You could even remove the ignition switch and use a SPST on/off switch... Starter switch not required due to kick her over... Terminations to starter removed on this diagram but could leave if desired...

You start with this bare minimum for first start up and to get her started/dialed in you should have no issues what so ever with coil voltages.

Assuming of course Dyno/rectifier/regulator all within spec and especially for the fact you have added new conductors and connectors, shit... good to go! ;)

Now more KZ porn please.... :woohoo:

Thanks for the compliments!

The circlips are just a bit tight, took a bit of persuasion to get the second one in its groove sometimes.

And I'm degreeing, gotta do some cam sprocket modification in the machine shop this week.

Wiseco used to ship spiral locks with their kits. You should try them sometime ;) ....More and more guys use bottons these days.

Bike is looking good Tyler!

Since I was bored at 4am this morning and had the KZ650-B1 wiring diagram.....

All cleaned up including starter for bare minimum engine starts... Sure you could even bypass some of the switches but since these handle bar controls are old and seem to be a source of voltage drops to the coils include and test them....

Damn image sizing....

Once broken down to the bare requirements, easy to see why the coil mod isn't required for there truly is only a couple places that the problem (voltage drops) could be caused.... ;)

Yeah that was the philosophy OMR. Basically I have what you have shown hooked up to my 20A fuse. If I pull the two 10A fuses in my box thats the circuit I end up with.

Very easy to see why you don't need the coil mod!! The only real issue with voltage to your coils would be a bad kill switch.

PS - OMR, you should go read the topic I posted last night in the electrical section. I'd appreciate your input.

Just bought a ZR750 exhaust on eBay. Hopefully I can get it to work without too much modification.

I should have posted an update before now. I'm in Germany, so the bike is waiting for winter. I test fitted the exhaust before I left, it'll fit fine. Just have to make a rear mount. And Leon, I'm gonna have to take off the swingy and do our original idea for swingarm spools, the zr exhaust rides high so it works out better in that respect.

Other than that, all she needs to run is cams set up and a new regulator, she's ready to go in every other respect.
