I drilled out the lid on the fake oil tank and put in my push start button.

I didn't want to run pods cause I heard alot of bad things about them. But the factory air box just is not the right look for my bike, so I made a custom intake that would simulate the factory air box and still look good. It was very easy and cost me maybe $15.00 it does not have the filters on it in the pic but ill tell how I made it if anyone is interested.

That looks great man...I went to target today and looked around for the containers and found the set of 3.Do they have a window cut in them? That's all I could find.

I have seen the air box mod before, but it was on a 400.
Are you using 2 filters or all 4? I want to run with the pods and was thinking maybe I can restrict the air flow some with some tin inserted on the inside of the filter.what do you think?

ya they do have a window in them. I just faced that down and painted over it so it wasn't so apparent. The intake I made from scratch. I am using 2 filters, one on each side. I was going to go with pods also but have heard too much bad stuff about them.

Hey KZBOBBER. Could you detail how ou made that air intake? I'm leery of pods too and would like an alternative. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

just measure the intake side of your carbs. convert that into inches and go to your local hardware store and get the same size PVC pieces. I just used 2 90 degree elbows for the outside carbs and 2 T shaped peices for the middle 2 carbs. then you just have to cut them down to make them fit cause they will be too wide for it. If you give me your e-mail address i can give you some pics that will better expalain it man.

Hey i would really like to make that air intake and would appreciate it if you could post some more pics and explain it a little better. Did you cave to do any jetting with this set up. Thanks

I didn't have to jet the carbs with this set up. That was the biggest reason for making the intake was to not have to mess around with the carbs. I will post some more pics in detail of how it was done. It was really easy and only cost maybe $15

Wow, bike looks fantastic and I'm digging how it sits., I'm just starting on a winter chopper project right now on a KZ650 and I was wondering where you found that sportster tank and how many gallons it is?

Also, how many inches did you extend the swing arm? and do you have any pics of the process?

I must be missing something. That intake looks completely sealed. Where does the air get in?

That looks really great.

I'm a little late to this party but I have questions on the modified air box you made. That is really nice and I have been racking my brain to find a solution you have right here.

Do you have other pictures on this? Top, sides, bottom? where do your filters sit in this contraption? Any pics or info you have would be great.

I had planned on picking up an old airbox, tuning everything, then was going to start playing around with the tuned engine/carbs until I found a solution.
