I've got a 1973 sr650 and want to replace the stock bars with something a bit cafe racerish. I found some clubmans on eBay.

Will these work without changing throttle cables, etc? Any other options I should consider without breaking the bank?

I think you will have to change those throttle cables as well as the clutch cable......without going to custom made look at getting the sets for a Z1R as they are shorter than yours.....if you keep the ones you have they will be flapping in the breeze as well as possibly binding up..........BTW, If it really is a 73 you have a truly rare bike :) :silly:

Anything smaller than the stock stuff typically requires new, shorter cables. Other than the clubmans, you can check out a drag style bar or some clip ons, both relatively cheap.

Besides the cables, you will also need to replace the brake line from the master cylinder to the junction

I got some drag bars because they are more comfortable than cafe bars (for me). I did use the stock throttle cable for a while but eventually got a shorter one for a cleaner look.

I also drilled the bars to keep the internal wiring. It was a bit of extra work but totally worth effort for how clean it looks.

I bought low drop clubmans from speedmotoco for my 81 sr650 but I have not installed yet. Lot of research and finally decided for that one.
Cheers, Charlie

I really do not want to replace cables and brake line as I'm not positive I'm keeping the bike.

Not sure you want to keep it? Then dont make it all cafe racerish and leave it stock and just ride (better resale that way to)

And on not changing brake lines and cables, theyre bound to kink or bind if used with shorter bars, not to mention the brake lines are bound to be crud filled and able to plug up, probably throwing you from the bike if part of that crud breaks loose and plugs up a master cylinder port or the hose.

Ok, guys. Thx. I thought it would actually increase resale and be a fun winterproject. I guess I'll keep it stock and at least bury the wires. I've got plenty of other stuff to do to this bike. I

It sat under a tree for 10 years and is nearly back to life. Only 1,800 on the odometer.
