Electronic ignition started with the 1979 Kz1000B. So no points on your Kzp. As mentioned they are very durable but all that can be affected by time and environment. I’d say you best value currently would be inspecting and testing of your current system. Starting out with verification that all are intact.

If your coils look like these, then the wires are easily removed.  

On my bike, I removed them and replaced the inner wire and the plug caps.  7mm copper core wire, and NGK plug caps.  A little shot of WD-40 allowed the outer protective sheath to be removed, and installed onto the new wires.  

If possible, I recommend this method.  The OEM coils are very high quality, and better than most aftermarket stuff.  Plus, why spend money when you don't have to?
