Ok, so recently i picked up an 1984 zn1100 LTD. I have everything ready to go except I need a new ignition switch. Problem is, they apparently they no longer exist :( I have scoured ebay for 2 weeks, no dice on a new, or used unit. There is one that claims to fit, and i ordered it. However, it does NOT fit as claimed by the ebay seller. The ignition switch on my bike has a square brown plug. And they one they sent me, and the ones i see on ebay have a rectangle brown plug. They both have 7 wires... but the bodies are different size and it wouldn't mount up even if i did some wire hacking. Any ideas on what i can do? I searched pages of results on google and sent messages to many companies and sellers, with no luck. Really sucks to be stuck at this point, with no apparent fix in site. Thanks in advance.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Is the original one salvageable?
Give me the key code, probably z5000~Z6000 #, and I'll cut you a key.

I would return that ignition switch. It's obviously wrong & their x-ref is wrong.

The Vulcan 750 ign switch is similar, but I don't know if it will fit the ZN700. (Vulcan VN700 VN750). also the EN450
As for mismatched connectors, if the terminal pins are the same size, then you can easily swap connectors or get a new connector.
If you have to replace the terminal pins, get the correct type & use a ratcheting open barrel crimper. cycleterminal.com etc.

Hey guys sorry for the late response. What I ended up figuring out is that the only one that you can use in the place is for the zn 1300 Voyager. It's slightly longer in the cylinder part up top but mounts in perfectly and plugs up. Hopefully this post will help somebody else in the future. Thanks again!

Did you find a new aftermarket ignition switch or did you get one from a Voyager?
And how many wires does the ZN1100 ignition switch have? Thanks.

For future reference. The ZN700 & ZN1100 use the same ignition switch. Also, in Canada there was a ZN750 model & its ign switch is probably the same as the 700/1100. and as indicated above the vulcan 750 appears to be very similar & seems to have the same connector. here's a used one for comparison. I bought a used ignition switch from a zn1300 voyager. I got it on ebay for 27$ free shipping... I think i got very lucky lol. Good to know zn700 parts my work for things i need as well. Since parts can be pretty hard to find for these zn1100's. The zn1100 has 7 wires running to a square 9 prong plug that is brown in color. 3 rows of 3. The cylinder where the key goes is about 3/4 of an inch taller then my original. Thank you for your help man!

Thanks for the info --- it might help someone else down the line. The ZN700 & ZN1100 share some stuff. I'm pretty sure the meters, wheels & fenders are the same as well as the tail light & tail cover, but I believe the seat, tank & side covers are different.

Reviving this old post....

Do any of you guys know if the ignition switches mentioned here (ZN700//1100/1300, etc.) can be disassembled to clean the internal electrical contacts?
