Just wondering what you guys use for wire coverings. All the wiring on my 78 kz659sr is wrapped in electrical tape and is a royal pain to work on when something stops working (which is almost every other ride on the old girl).

IIRC I used 3:1 heat shrink from McMaster Carr on a Z1B I was restoring. They sell different ratios, you have to measure the connector if you're not removing it from the harness. There's also Vintage Connections, they sell vintage Japanese electrical parts.

Here's the shrink tubing on the handlebar loom

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationUse what the factory used. Non-adhesive electrical tape. That plus a couple small pieces of sticky electrical tape will hold it all in place. It unwraps easy, and you can make a change and re-wrap with the same piece, if you don't have to go too far with the changes.

(oops, didn't see TexasKz's link)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIf you wrap the loom with non-adhesive tape as recommended the ends can be secured with F4, non-adhesive self-fusing silicone tape. This stuff sticks only to itself when stretched and it stays put, but it has no adhesives to turn gooey when exposed to heat and time. It insulates and is not affected by heat, and since you stretch it to activate it, one roll goes a long way. Because it sticks only to itself it works on anything and can be removed without making a mess. I have used it for a variety of applications and it works GREAT! It is available on Amazon and eBay. CycleTerminal.com has a pretty good selection of wiring products for motorcycles.

Wiring Harness Sleeve Tubing, Sheathing Loom

Motorcycle Harness Connector covers handy for the reg-rec connector as it can get dirty from the rear wheel on some models.

That non adhesive tape is often denoted Elliot Tape. EE201 is the high temp type which works great on bike harnesses. I use 3M electrical tape to hold it in place. That silicone tape Ed recommends is fine as well but Kawasaki just used electrical tape.
