Been working (it seems like forever) on getting a 1984 ZN1100 LTD back on the road. One thing gets repaired or replaced, then something else goes bad. The latest were the ignition coils. To shorten a long story, I ended up with two ignition coils and three spark plug wires...which is a problem because the wires are of the type that screw into the coils. All I need is one lousy wire but it appears that it's impossible to buy just a spark plug wire. To get a wire, we have to buy an entire coil. I didn't even see any wires (without coils) on eBay It's a hardship to buy a coil when all that's needed is a HT wire. Is there any workaround for this? $120 for basically a spark plug wire is ridiculous.

The Dyna wires come with integrated non-resistor caps.

I use the 7mm solid core version.

Am uncertain as to whether or not these "plain" wires will "screw" into the coils at hand. Or whether the 8mm size might be better suited.

Good Fortune! :)

Any powersports store should have something like this

www.z1enterprises.com/search?q=Ignition+wires

You probably want the 7mm copper core

Good luck

Is the cap also needed for the missing plug wire?

Are the caps at hand the stock caps? Aftermarket caps?
Z1E also carries NGK caps.

Are the coils at hand "stock" coils?

Good Fortune! :)

How was it determined that both coils were "bad?" Ohm check? Dedicated coil tester? Black goo oozing from coil? Lack of plug spark? Other?

If the replacement coils aren't brand new, has it been likewise determined that they are both "good?"

Thanks. The Dyna wires don't screw into the coils at hand, at least that's what I gathered from reading the installation instructions. They use a simple, standard boot to hold the spark plug wire into the coil. The Dyna wires however may be my only recourse from what I can see.

Yeah, the entire wire (caps boots wire, connectors) is gone. I actually have some NGK caps to the wire. The spark plug end isn't the problem. It's the part of the wire that makes the connection to the coil...because of the knurled nut and threads.

Coils are stock to the bike.

Thanks but not worried about the coils at this point. All I need is one spark plug wire that will give me a certain connection to the stock coil that has threads to accept the stock wire with a nuts

I'm thinking at this point to take a chance on the Dyna wires. Maybe the Dya wire will press into the stock coil and the corresponding Dyna boot will be enough to secure the wire in the stock coil...even without a knurled nut.

Dang, I wish I had the cash for a complete Dyan Ignition for $400+...sure looks sweet. Oh well, I'm spitting nickels trying to find a work around rather than buy a new OEM coil with plug wires.

The wire slips through the nut with a grommet inside that compresses when tightened to seal. Any 7mm copper HT wire will work. You should be able to get just the plug wire at any AP store and not have to pay for crap you don't want or need.
