Can anyone tell me what the purpose for these are?

I remember taking them off my 76 KZ900 decades ago when I installed different headlight ears. Not having them didn't seem to affect the turnsignals or headlights.

On the original assemblies the turn signals were grounded through the metal collars because the rubber vibration dampers isolated them electrically.

Thanks. That's what I thought since the rubber dampers were removed and the lights still worked.
