So my bike was in the shop for a few weeks getting a new rear tire and inspection done, last week I called to check for an update and the tech told me that everything would pass inspection except my high beam didn't work. This was news to me as it was working fine when I dropped it off so he told me he would double check and slap the sticker on if it would work. Fast forward a week and the bikes done, sticker on the fork and I'm ready to rock and roll. I get the bike home and I'm cleaning her up and I notice now that the high beam dosen't work. A couple variables I have going on, the battery voltage was pretty low... She barely started so I have the trickle charge on now. Not sure if the bike won't allow the high beam to work if voltage is too low? Secondly, I am running one of those OPT7 LED bulbs, which works great but it has only been on there a month so I'm hoping that's not burned up. Lastly, I had the tank off and wiring harness split apart over the winter fixing the starter. I repaired several cracked wires so I suppose it's possible one came free but I don't want to pull it all apart again to check until I rule out everything else. Anything obvious I'm overlooking before I tear it down, please let me know.

How good are your forward hand controls? Check for corrosion in the left one, ive had that happen before, might not be making a good connection.

My low beam was out last month. It's a sealed beam, so I ordered a new headlight from Z1. Plugged in the new light and low beam was still out. Turned out to be a loose connection inside the headlight, at the back side of the connector that plugs into the light.

I would suggest working backwards with a test light or voltage meter and see what you can figure out. Does the high beam indicator on your dashboard work?

So I pulled apart the hand controls and made sure I had good, clean connections... And then I did what I should of done from the start.... Swapped my buld out. The old halogen worked fine so the Problem is in the OPT7 led. I shipped it back (at my cost) and I am waiting for my replacement. I really hope it was just a random defect because amount of light that throws over the stock bulb is incredible. Has anyone has any luck with any other LED units out there?

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI use a sealed unit by Truck-Lites. It's DOT approved and it plug and play. Works great. It cost me $163 on eBay.

So that whole unit will mount behind the bezel of the stock headlight assembly?

Jon:

I got my sealed unit in and set it up... I got some intense flickering at first and now I am only getting one beam pattern (unsure if it's high or low) the switch isn't working and the indicator light is on. When I plug the stock unit back in it works fine. Did you have any issues with this or have to wire in a resistor or anything because it is LED instead of halogen? Thanks in advance.

That may be the case. My bike is different, I am running a Motogadget M-unit for wiring management. All new wiring and M-switchespecially designed to work with the M-unit. I did not want to deal with wiring gremlins from a 30+ year old bike. I will search around a bit and ask some questions for you. There in a guy on one of my FB forums running the same light. I will ask him if he had any issues.

LED's have a +&-. Try switching the wires.
