Try connecting a normal bulb of the correct wattage to the brake light wire and see if the problems goes away, perhaps the control unit is playing up. Also make sure you have a really good ground to all the rear lamp connections. If the resistance of the LED + resistor is the same as the bulb that fix should work, but it might be it's not exact and falls outside the range the unit detects - do you have a meter to check the resistance of both setups i.e an actual bulb and the LED and a resistor. How many ohms are the resistors?

Yes I have an ohm meter... I will just run it in line with the power circuit with the old and new bulb and see how close I am. Does anyone know for certain which circuit the warning light is on? (Tail or brake) or would it be on both?

This should be close for the 81 (80 KZ750H1)



This is what I used (about $10 at Auto Zone) instead of resistors

You wired that flasher module into the brake circuit? I have an LED flasher wired into the turn signals when I did the front lights last year so the rear turns work fine... Its the brake/tail light indicaror that's giving me an issue.

Unplug the Brake Light Failure Indicator switch (lower right, 3 wires on diagram.

Do you know off the top of your head if that will deactivate the low fuel warning as well? I mean I always trip my tanks of fuel but it's always nice to have in case I'm not paying attention. I have had to flip to reserve more than once haha

No, the fuel level and brake lamp outage switches ground (activate light) separately.
In the wire diagram at the bulb in the speedometer (lower bulb in diagram) the brown wire is the + voltage (hot) and the green/white wire goes to both the fuel level and brake light failure switches.
When each switch activates, it grounds the circuit activating the light. If only the brake light failure switch is removed the fuel level switch will still ground and activate the light.

If you are just going to do away with it then you could just remove the bulb in the instrument cluster.

Yes, but that will eliminate the warning for both Low Fuel and Brake lamp Failure.
Both functions use the same bulb for their warning.

So I finally got around to working on the bike again last night, I haven't yet addressed the problem with the indicator light but I figured I'd keep reporting progress in case anyone else out there was finding this information helpful:

In total there will be five connections so I purchased a two and three prong connecter. Could not find a 5 prong.

Here I have re-installed my chopped up and painted rear fender and cut back the casing from the harness.

I added on the new bracket for the LED light with also will double as the plate holder.

From there I cut the harness back about 12 inches and removed the two extra ground wires (black with stripe) that were used with the previous signals. I put together and soldered the two plug switch and then I called it a night. I will take some pictures of the wiring and finished product once I get back at it.

Not so familiar with these "new fangled" bikes, I was visualizing a different instrument panel :(

So here it is, finished product minus dealing with the warning light... I'm going to address that next when I tear apart the front end to chase a gremlin in the starting circuit and upgrade the front light. Sorry if this seems excessive... Just a little how-to for any visual learners like me.

So here is the second connecter ready to be installed. This one contains the power/brake/ground wires.

First step is taking the grommet and sliding it over the prepped wire

Then slip on the prong, pinch it down with pliers and plop some solder on it

Once I get a smaller "cafe" seat installed I think it will look quite a bit better.
