I did a search on this & now i'm really confused lol, i just brought an 83 gpz 550 back from the dead, it runs well & all but i have the low battery lcd flashing & the red warning light flashing due to no more sensor on the battery. I've seen post's on grounding the wire, splicing into the wiring harness, connecting to the fuse box, using a 9v batt, using a 12v switch, connecting straight to + side of battery, connecting to battery but using a fuse, etc etc ummmm errrrr now i dont know what to do???? you cant just connect it to the + side of the battery?

I think it senses the battery voltage ,but not the whole battery voltage but just one cell.

6 cells in series at just over 2 volts gives your battery voltage. The sensor probe is looking nearer the 1.5 -2.5 range. I might be wrong on this.

The warning light flashes for oil and fuel, so either remove the bulb and live with it or find a NOS sensor probe that crop up on ebay from time to time.

By koolaid_kid: The wire went to a sensor in the battery, no longer supported. Just wire it to a 12V wire, which is hot when the key is ON and you will be fine.

By loudhvx: After you get the bike running and looking good, you will likely want to get an AGM sealed battery to prevent acid spills corrosion etc., so you won't need the acid level detector.

Wire it like Koolaid said, and you'll be good to go.

An option is the brown wire circuit which should be ON/OFF w the ignition switch.
loudhvx has a 550H wiring diagram on his motorcycle stuff page which is linked in his signature.
