I just picked up a kawasaki KZ 1000 P and it has a oil sensor located on engine just behind the head but below the carbs.

Well one of the prior owners cut the wire coming off the sensor lead.

I figure I would just lift the tank off and find the other end. Nope !!!!

Who ever cut it at the sensor completely cut the wire out of the wiring harness.

If you have a KZ can you follow the wire from the sensor to were ever it goes and take a pic for me, send a Video link, Go Pro ???

I tried the dealer and kawasaki forums and got no help.

Thanks

That wire goes to the starter cover, then down to the loom coming from the alternator and neutral switch. Take the starter cover off and hopefully he didn't cut it further down.

Great....thank you very much. Have not had a KZ for 30 + years and did not really work on them to much.

This is what I found when looking for oil sending unit, wire was cut and just sitting there. I had stripped wire and removed starter cover before taking pic.

That wire goes to ground from the sending unit. Try touching the case with the connector and see if it lights.

I took a tester and grounded it on the motor and took cap off of oil sensor. I touched the tester to the metal part inside the cap / plug and the testers light went on, so there is power to sending unit.

Does that mean the sending unit itself is bad ????
How do you test the sensor itself ???

Mine is bad too. I put a pressure gauge on the test port above the Ignition housing.
FK it. You can't trust them.
