thanx swest, i assume you mean points' contacts...they are fresh but will consider that..i need to look into vent in points cover possibly the culprit...wd 40 in there too perhaps! thanx!

No I meant the plug in contacts. With age they corrode and oil attracts dirt causing a bad connection. Water even condensation can cause problems when they're that bad.

Very true, give me the most foul mouthed, drunken, stoned thug and be straight with me and we get on just fine. Something about biker's I've noticed, an alternative lifestyle gives us the freedom to be ourselves.

On the WD40 it is very misused as a lubricant or penetrating oil-which it isn't, but as a 'water dispersant' it is great. The '40' was the 40th formulation to get the chemistry just right. Just keep it away from spray shops as the slightest amount can cause havoc for resprays.

Thanx for the feedback, all! Went through her Saturday and found a plug wire boot out of one coil that was not sealing properly...unplugged it and a little spurt of water dripped out...Blew coil & cap out with compressor, voila! I got to ride again this weekend! Tyrell, as a confirmed fan of trivia, (along with 14 dollar words, LOL!) I knew the story behind the wd-40 name...I had heard from a body man that it would contaminate raw metal too...Here is an additional factoid...I found out (belatedly) that when wd-40 evaporates, the film it leaves behind is actually corrosive...It says right on the can to use it on guns/fishing tackle, &c...DON'T DO IT!!! I pretty much trashed an old Stevens .22 rifle with the shit, I took it out a few months after wiping it down with WD, and the whole thing was coated in fine rust! ( Just a blue eyed miracle that I used gun oil, and didn't put any WD down the bore...ugly as sin, but still shoots straight as a string! ) but spray it on a wet disributor, it is the right tool for the job...As an aside, my personal fave these days for spray lube is "PB blaster" good stuff! Thanx again, all...Stay warm, ride if/when you can!

Good to know GOA... from here out, very selective on the use of the stuff. Guess we were all brainwashed about this at one point.

Anyone have/find any reading material about WD... and its affects?

Belated, but print and put in a folder, for future reference:

Troubleshooting A Wet Motorcycle (Won’t Start/Run)

1. When motorcycles get wet, many things can happen to prevent normal starting and running.

2. Ignition coils, due to their mounting location under the gas tank, can overheat if sufficient air flow is not provided causing minute cracks for moisture to get in shorting the coil.

3. Sparkplugs wires and caps need to be replaced as the heat from the engine makes the wires(High Tension Leads) get brittle causing the insulation to fail. The caps contain a resistor to limit the RFI(the snap and pop heard on radio’s) that will fail, again from heat/age. They can be checked with a multimeter ,and will test at 5000 ohms.

4. Most Japanese motorcycle electrical connectors are open at the rear, letting in moisture, that will collect on the male and female pins/sockets causing a short, blowing a fuse or creating corrosion limiting current flow.

5.Check the right handlebar switch pod for signs of corrosion or broken wires on the run/stop switch. Some older Kawasaki’s are experiencing broken/crumbled solder joints in switches. If needed, I have a repair procedure, just ask.

6. I recommend buying a spray can of “De-oxit” electrical contact cleaner/preservative available at Radio Shack Stores in the U.S. or any other electronic supply store. www.deoxit.com is their website.

7. I’d advise not using WD-40 on any electrical connection/fuse clips as it over time becomes a non conductor(more like an insulator).

8. If the popular “Pods” type air filter is used and gets wet, it will act like having the choke on causing a very rich condition. The only repair for wet pods is to remove them and either using an oven set at 250 F, a wet/dry shop vac to vacuum the moisture from the filters, or a air nozzle at low pressure to blow the water away.

9. Use caution when using an air nozzle, as at high pressure, the fabric of the filter medium may tear making the filter unusable.
