Bightness of warning lights when engine is stopped is battery voltage, cranking capacity is the amp hour rating.

I like the gel batteries that have a slighly higher voltage and better capacity, and no overflow pipe to cause problems.

A thorogh cleaning up of the battery terminals, earthing point(s) and coil terminals and connectors makes a noticeable difference on old bikes, usually the first thing I do. .

I looked at that one, but would like one with Higher CCA ? With the battery that you are using, how will this battery hold up thru the initial starting phase especially if the bike has been sitting or hard to start?

The actual Amps delivered can be seen with how fast it spins the starter when cranking. That one spins the starter very fast, better than any other battery I have had yet. I don't know if there are bike batteries rated higher than 210CCA? maybe, but that's pretty good.

Leaving it sit doesn't matter because I leave it on a battery tender. Sometimes it goes two weeks between runs and it starts very quickly.

The lithium batteries claim higher CCA rating. However, reviews are mixed. They either work great or die quickly and often.

The 210 CCA battery you made reference to is one I was considering. But if I can find a bigger one that will fit for about the same cost, I'll consider that one.

Batterystuff.com seems to have the best prices. I did notice on their web-site that 81' and later KZ's had bigger, higher Amp. batteries available?

I have a HVT-1 which is a bit longer than stock size but I have the room.
The one I got has a CCA of 500 on it.
But a stock size has CCA of 310 or there abouts.
Measure your old battery or space on and check their fitment.

Sorry, not specific to your bike, but I now only use Scorpion AGM's from Batterystuff.com in my 550's. I have never had a faster cranking, or longer lasting battery (in nearly 30 years of owning bikes). No leaks. No rust. No mess. No checking water levels etc. CCA is an obscure measure anyway (0 deg F for 30 seconds, at a minimum of 7.2 volts), for motorcycles. Unfortunately, batteries are not normally rated in "actual amps it will deliver to your starter at normal temperatures". There apparently is a CA rating at 32 deg F, and an HCA rated at 80 deg F, but I've never seen them advertised.

I noticed the Lithium battery website had a different CCA test method specified, have no idea what it is. I do know that the Li's have had numerous complaints about poor CCA performance when cold. One battery maker weaseled out of it by saying that the slow cranking would eventually warm the battery up so it would work......

I have worked building Li battery charging systems and the two things I know about them is they get very unhappy if their temp deviates more than about 10C from room temp. They also are very picky about the voltage accuracy of the charging system.

Loudhvx, Which Battery are you using by the way? I'll do some measurements and try to see from the battery charts what will fit and give me the most CCA's.
