Do all Kawasaki motorcycles, come with some sort of suppression type spark plug caps ??

How do I test the factory caps to verify that there good or bad ??

Thanks.....

You'll need a multimeter, one that measures voltages, and resistance. Watch this video:

The best multimeter tutorial

To measure the sparkplug caps resistance, unscrew them from the sparkplug wires, set the multimeter to OHMS(looks like an upside down horseshoe), range of 20K, put one probe where the sparkplug wire went, and the other on the terminal that fit on the sparkplug. If the cap is good, the meter will indicate the amount of resistance. New caps may have 5000 ohms, but older ones may be failing or become intermittent.

Thanks for the video MFolks !!

I'm still curious though, do all Kawasaki motorcycles, come with some sort of suppression type spark plug caps ??

At least the bikes from the 80's did, I suppose they still do on the newer bikes.

Is there any way to check them, to determine if they are not a suppression type cap ?? Or would checking them with a multi-meter show that they are not a suppression type cap ??

Dyna and maybe Accel sell non suppression type sparkplug caps and the sparkplug wires. If you use non suppression type caps, maybe whenever your bikes sparkplugs fire, it can be heard on nearby radio's and TV sets.

I'm just curious, if there are any of the screw on plug caps, that were / are a non suppression cap. I'm not looking to buy any. Just curious about the different options is all.

I am interested in learning about the points, to electronic ignition conversion for my kz650 though. That sounds like a sweet upgrade.

I did get my replacement coils and wires installed on my kz750. Man that made a big difference on the bikes overall performance. I'm very pleased with that work !!

The original ignition coils were marginal even when new(low bidder), put some years of stop and go traffic, and the coils will probably become intermittent, or fail completely.

Ignition Coils And Sparkplug Wire Choices

Replacement coils can be bought at www.z1enterprises.com. I believe "Emgo" is the brand. They also carry the popular Dyna 2.2 and 3 ohm coils along with replacement sparkplug wires.

Now, you have a choice on sparkplug wires:
1. Copper plug wires with no supression caps(the best choice, will produce greater spark, but will produce audio noise on Radio's & T.V.'s)

2. Copper plug wires with supression caps(a built in 5000 ohm resistor, that can some times fail, like what came with the bike).

3. Copper plug wires with no supression caps, but using resistor plugs(the "R" in the plug number, like B8RES).

4. Supression plug wires with no supression caps.

NEVER use resistor plugs and supression caps or supression plug wires, as now there will be two (2) sources of resistance in the secondary loop of the ignition coils, greatly reducing the spark energy.

Another choice is the Accel 3 ohm coils, with a similar primary(small wire) electrical connection using ring terminals as the Dyna ignition coils. Whatever brand of coil you go with, make sure the primary wires will clear the mounting hardware, as the spacers will come really close, possibly causing an electrical short, blowing fuses. Some riders have replaced the metal spacers with Nylon or Plastic non conductive ones, reducing the chance of an electrical problem.

If I understand correctly, a supression cap will show the 5k resistance, an after market non supression cap (with no resistor in it) willl not show resistance, (but will show continuity!)
(If I am wrong, I am heartfully sorry, and look forward to mfolks correcting me, LOL!)
