Hey Guys - Had a question about the reserve lighting system and an output of tests I am getting regarding my headlight.

Here is what is happening--

Low beam - works
High Beam - dim

Bypass of reserve lighting system - neither low nor high works.

Swapped headlight bulb - same output.

checked with my meter - I am getting 12v to the blue wire in the reserve lighting harness. I guess i just wanted to ask is it 100% that the blue to blue yellow is the reserve lighting bypass? perhaps the PO did something screwy with my wiring :S

Reserve Lighting Unit(RLU) Bypass

Remove the Reserve Lighting Unit, then jumper the blue wire to the blue/yellow wire on the RLU harness connector. That will bypass the RLU.

And this is the circuit functions of the RLU:
Reserve Lighting Color Codes

A. BLUE wire, power from 10 amp fuse.

B. Light GREEN with RED stripe, the headlight failure light.

C. RED with BLACK stripe, goes to the high beam of the headlight.

D. BLUE with Yellow stripe, dimmer switch for high beam.

E. BLUE with ORANGE stripe, dimmer switch for low beam.

F. BLACK with YELLOW stripe, ground circuit.

Thanks for that. I think I have something screwy in the wiring going to have to dive a little deeper. It is curious that I do not get power to the light at all when i bypass the RLU. This leads me to believe either the switch is wired in revese, or a wire is crossed.

Got a multimeter? you will need one, to trace the wiring. Not experienced in it's use? Watch this:
The best multimeter tutorial

You'll need a wiring diagram, that shows the wire colors too.

I jumpered the blue / orange to the blue wire, and was able to bypass the Reserve lighting unit. Seems my handgrip switch is improperly wired. After I get it running right per my other thread I will correct that.

I might actually have a working reserve lighting unit. Will investigate further, but I think I can close this case. To a simple fix.

This may be an old post but rather than start a new thread I kind of have the same problem. I got new gauges that don't have the blown headlight indicator and while wiring my new signals I inadvertently plugged the turn signal wire in to the wire for the indicator. Well, I blew a fuse and when I put the wires right I notice headlight was dim. Now I'm not sure if I ruined the box or if that wire needs connected somehow.
I assume I burned the box up. Is there a way to check the unit?
