i just installed the used regulator according to the wiring diagram and now it stays below 14v. yay! thank you for your help guys!

Glad to hear you got it right. :)
So the old R/R was bad, even when hooked up correctly? Probably damaged by having the Voltage sense Brown wire disconnected for so long. :dry:

i just went for a longer ride and beside the caburator still bitching, it runs good now. yeah the old one must have been dead. i got a used one for free for testing and its working. now i just have to get the carburettor running well when i have low throttle and decelerating and a shorter rear sprocket and its done :)
