Hello all, I'm a bike tech and can resolve all of my issues but help would be appreciated! Since I've never owned or worked on a kz before I've got some questions...

I've got a 1978 kz650sr

I'm looking for some pictures to represent where the wiring harness was ran and also what the connectors look like for each handlebar control.

My harness was all hacked up and I have another harness, the harness was off the bike when I got it.

I also could use component locations like battery brackets, reg/rec mounting and location

I really hope somebody can shed some light on a source to an online manual

Thank you!!

Welcome to the KZ Rider Forum. I have a 1977 KZ 650 B model. I can shoot pics and send or send you a copy of the wiring diagram if that helps. These are great bikes and hope you get to enjoy it once you have the wiring and any other issues sorted. Let me know what I can do to help.

It would be awesome if you could snap some pictures and the wiring diagram!! Thanks so much. Would you also know what model my bike is? I'm seeing all this b1 stuff, means nothing to me!?

I will see about some pics today. Also, how about a picture of your bike? You can get the year manufactured on the frame. I suggest starting there to be sure this is an SR model and to confirm year. Do you have at least an owners manual? The B models were with a single disc brake in front and a drum in rear plus spoke wheels. The "C" models and "SR" models were fitted with cast wheels. I will see about photo copying the wiring diagram but since it is color coded may not mae as much sense. Once you determine for sure your year/model, I would get a Clymer's or other service manual. They can be had fairly cheaply on Ebay and such.

I do suggest confirming your model and year on the frame tag. Hopefully that is still intact.

I checked it the other day, built in 10 of 77 and its cast wheels, dual front disc and disc in the rear side covers that are in a box say sr but some idiot cut them up and hacked the frame loop off

Looks like you have a 1977 C Model. The C is for custom. The dual front disc, rear disc, and mag wheels are the main clues. However, the "SR" side covers are likely from a later year model such as 1979 or later. Sorry to read the PO did some some damage. They probably thought they were going to magically turn it into a cafe bike or some Mod/Rocker thing. No pics yet but will be spooning on new tires soon so I will get some taken for you. Good Luck on the recovery and fix up.

It is a start. You got a frame and an engine plus wheels and such. You have skills if you are a bike tech so it is in good hands. It looks like an SR or SR parts on a C model considering your manufacture date. . OR, You may have a 1978 model manufactured in late 1977. This may be a D Model commonly known as an "SR" as you describe your side covers. I am not sure if the SR and D Model are one in the same. Someone more familiar with the D models and SRs may be able to assist.

Here are some photos that may be of interest to you:

This is my complete restored 1977 KZ650 B1 with side cover in place.
