Both these switches on my'78 Z1-R are shot- has anyone located a source for these obsolete/deleted items, or maybe have some for sale?

Take a look at the diagram below. If the parts you need are marked #11 and #18 here's some info. The part marked #11 is obsolete, but can be found on eBay. Here's a link for some examples of new old stock ones -
www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_sop=10&_from=R4...at=0&_odkw=27043-002

According to Kawasaki.com the part marked #18 is still an "ACTIVE" Kawasaki part, so any dealer can order it. Partzilla lists it at $13.27 - here's the link -

i had to purchase number 18 in ed's diagram a couple years ago.
it is also shared with many kawasaki models
i remember thinking that it looked just the same as the one for the clutch.
can't completely confirm it will work for you but i bet it will.
if i can remember to check this evening i will.
i have a clutch and brake perch complete used items hanging on the wall.

According to Kawasaki.com the Z1-R and KZ650-C1 take the same clutch / starter lockout switch. Here's some info I provided another member that may be helpful (see link below). You may want to pull the switches from the perches (very easy to do) to check to see if Leon is correct about them being the same. It could be that just the length of the wires are different which may not be a problem. Ed

'78 Z1-R Front Brake and clutch switches are not interchangeable - the clutch one has a larger diameter barrel than the brake one! Managed to refurbish the clutch cutout switch - some WD-40 to clean and lube it and a bit of TLC on the harness/connectors. I got a front brake switch from 2wheelpros for $16-00 ($28-00 postage though!) Working on a circuit to disable engine if gear is selected with sidestand down - most modern bikes have this as standard fitment. Will post something in the electrical section when it progresses.
