1977 kz650b1 w/martek 440 ignition points
04 Jul 2010 21:18
Wanted to check the points on my bike. Took the side cover off and found another two piece cover. Could not get the second cover off because it has two nuts butted right up against each other and I did not want too destroy any thing. Does any body know how to get these covers off? Or, where can I get the instructions, or any information at all?Thanx for your time and efforts ... PEACE Larry

loudhvx, I dont want to seem ungreatful, but my eyes are not what they used to be. I can not read the text in those instructions. If you could just tell me how to get that two piece cover off, in step four I think, I would be ever so greatful. Thanx for your time and efforts PEACE Larry

Someone else scanned the instruction, so that file is all I have (if you click on it it gets a little bigger). But if I recall correctly, the rotor just pulls off.
Those are not covers, really. The inner one is the timing rotor and the outer doughnut is the main unit. It's been 10+ years since I've worked on a Martek, but I recall just pulling off the rotor. Then the doughnut comes off when you unscrew the three mounting screws.
But don't pull too hard if the thing is working, like I said, my memeory could be totally wrong. You may want to get confirmation from someone who knows better.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have a Martek 440 K on my Z1R. I still have the instructions. I can scan them and email them to you if you PM me your email address. I love the Martek infrared ignition. I have it mounted with a set of Martek Blue Goose coils and WOW.
