What does that mean? The sense line will be either on the main white wire coming off the reg/rec or a switched subcircuit I think... like the brown. When you say ignition, are you referring to the part of the electrical system that fires the spark plugs?

loudhvx, Thanks for the excellent explanation.

wiredgeorge,

on the 1981 KZ650H1 the sense line from the reg/rec runs to the brown wire which is switched on to 12V by the ignition switch. When I install my 1981 stator and reg/rec I plan to move the sense line from there to the battery positive.

Have you measured how much the sense line uses at 13v? Or will you have a seperate switch to disconnect it from the positive terminal? If a switch, don't remember to turn it on or there will be no regulation.

I ordered the Z1 unit R110-515. From the pic it has 3 yellow, 1 red and 1 green wire. I will let you know when it gets here. The instructions are for a existing circuit, hopefully you can tie it into the diagram you had supplied me. It is a 77KZ1000 not a 78.

Green is unusual, but by deduction I would assume it is the ground. Let's wait til you get it and investigate the wiring at that time, rather than relying on what may just be a generic photo.

The KZ unit is here. It has 3 yellow, 2 red and 2 green wires. The instructions are below.

Universal rectifier/regulator for most late model 3 phase permanent magnet systems (heavy duty)

1. Attach 3 yellow stator wires-no sequence

2. Attach 2 red wires to battery positive

3. Attach 2 green wires to battery negative or good ground

Some models have a small black or brown wire from ignition switch. This wire is no longer needed with our rectifier regulator.

That is all that was on the instruction sheet. Hopefully you can tie this into the diagram you gave me. Also hope this thing works for $95.00. Was not ready for that. Thanks a

I hooked up the new regulator from KZ this morning according to your diagram. Started it and it runs like a top. Puts out 14.5 volts at any rpm. Great work on your part. I can't thank you enough for all your time and patience. (You are the man). Pictures of the vehicle to come soon, assuming it warms up enough to take pictures.
Again, thank you.

:S OK where do I begin..I have read and copied the diagragms to re-wire my "77" KZ1000...I have already pulled all the wires..it was a mess...I have the aftermaket R/R and also a new starter soleniod.(both from Z1 Enterprizes and made by Ricks Stators)...I am also using new ATC blade fuses and fuse block..what came on the bike is Accel coils and a Dyna S...I want to be sure that I can eliminate the 4 wire blocks/connectors...I have the 86 relay so I can wire the coils as per Wired Georges instructions...I also have put in a new H4 headlight and using Clear Alternatives Hayabusa smoked tail lens and LED light...where I'm pulling my hair out is wiring in the new soleniod coil wires...they are not matching colors to anything..I see in the bare bones diagragm that the Blk/Yellow from the Sol.coil ties into the Green/Ground..does this need to tie in or can I just Ground it to the frame??..I am not running anything on the bike.."bare bones"..no neutral, oil light..no gauges..just a headlight..no highbeam/lowbeam..highbeam only..brake light/tail light only..it looks like the "bare bones" diagragm will work just fine for me..any ideas or mods please let me know...PS..I'm also putting on some green LED pods but these will be wired to a hidden toggle and switched on only when the bike is parked...Thanks for any and all help...I can't wait to get this old beauty back on the road...crunch time...Bike Week is starting and I live 60 miles south of Daytona..Tracy
