Can somebody help me with what coils will fit on my bike?
My 1980 has electronic ignition with what I believe to be 3 ohm coils.
Been looking at E-Bay and there's some for a 79, but I'm not sure if the 79 had electronic or points ignition.
I'm also wondering if later model coils would fit and work. For instance there a couple sets of dual secondary coils for ZX6's on there too.

The 80 LTD has an electronic ignition. The primary resistance of yor coils depends on whether there is an online ballast resistor or not... I have a 79 and 80 shaft and both used 2.5 Ohm coils with 1.5 Ohm inline ballast resistor. To use 3 Ohm coils, you just have to remove the ballast resistor from inline with the wire that powers the coils.

Thanks Bountyhunter and Wiredgeorge!
So then I take it that pre '80 points type models have 3 ohm coils? And I can use them if I just remove my ballast resistor from the cicuit?
Piece a cake!
One more question: If I decide to shell out the bucks for soem Dyna coils, which color ones are the 3 ohm coils? I'm thinking they're green. That right?

Buy the green Dyna coils. Remove the ballast resistor if one is installed.

ssbn659 - We are discussing a KZ1000. All the KZ1000 models used an IC igniter ignition by 1980. If you have the OEM coils, they are the same as the green Dyna coils being discussed... they are called 3 Ohm coils. Most of the time the actual primary resistance will just over 4 Ohms but they are called 3 Ohm coils.

If you have one, it'll be a white ceramic brick looking thing up under your tank, ahead of the coils. About four inches long, half inch thick.

No. Obviously I can´t know if someone put low-ohm coils on your bike and added a ballast resistor, but with the stock setup there shouldn´t be one.

I believe the stock coil in mine is four Ohms, no ballast resistor.
